The Frühstart-Rente explained simply: what parents should know in 2026
by Felix Kropp
In short
From 2027 the state plans to pay 10 € per month into a pension depot for every child (aged 6–18, in school in Germany). Over twelve years that’s up to 1,440 € — for free. The money stays locked until retirement.
Who gets the Frühstart-Rente?
Children aged 6 to 18 who attend school in Germany. Income-independent, cohort by cohort from 2027 (starting with those born in 2020).
Is 10 € a month enough?
Honestly: as a gift it’s a great start, as a sole pension it’s too little. The real lever is compound interest over the long run — plus a small voluntary top-up. See what it means for your child in the Frühstart-Rente calculator.
