Frühstart-Rente, Frühstart depot or junior depot — what’s the difference?
by Felix Kropp
The three terms
- Frühstart-Rente: the planned state subsidy (10 €/month for the child).
- Frühstart depot: the vessel holding that subsidised money — locked until retirement.
- Junior depot: a free securities account in the child’s name — flexible, available anytime.
Locked or flexible?
That’s the decisive question. The state top-up is meant for retirement and stays put until 67. If you also want to save for earlier goals — driving licence, semester abroad, first flat — you need a flexible pot as well.
Which option suits you?
It depends on your goal. The calculator makes exactly this split visible: it shows the locked and the flexible part separately.
