Where we are right now
The Frühstart-Rente exists as a cabinet decision from 12/2025, planned start 2027. The first reading in the Bundestag has taken place — the law itself has not yet been passed. Some details are fixed today, others are still open. I keep this article current as the legislation moves forward.
As of: 28 June 2026
What is currently fixed
- Eligible: children aged 6 to 18 in school in Germany.
- Amount: 10 € per month from the state, income-independent.
- Maximum state contribution: up to 1,440 € over 12 years.
- Lock-up: the funded capital stays locked until retirement (probably 67).
- Start: cohort by cohort from 2027, starting with those born in 2020.
What is still open
- Form of payout: lump sum, annuity or both? Not finally regulated.
- Taxation in retirement: the exact tax treatment on payout isn’t fully clarified.
- Eligible asset classes / depot providers: which products/depots qualify will come in the implementing ordinance.
- Moving abroad: what happens if the family emigrates in the meantime? Not yet detailed.
- Pauses (school break/abroad): detailed rules pending.
What you can do now — without waiting
Nothing to rush. It’s worth getting a feel — calmly — for what the subsidy could mean in your specific case. The calculator is built for exactly that and deliberately shows a range. As soon as the law is final, I’ll update this article.
